Mount Kailash in the Himalayas is not the highest mountain in the Himalayas, but no one has climbed this peak. Because, it is believed that climbing Mount Kailash is tantamount to insulting the gods. Be it religious beliefs or natural reasons, climbing Mount Kailash is a taboo.

According to scientists, the peak of Mount Kailash is actually a man-made vacuum pyramid, and it is surrounded by more than 100 smaller pyramids. According to initial estimates, the height of the pyramid complex is between 100 and 1,800 meters, while the height of the Egyptian pyramids is only 146 meters. If this hypothesis is true, it would be larger than any known pyramid today.

In terms of religious beliefs, it is considered as the center of the earth. But it has its specialty in terms of geographical location. Because, its distance from Stonehenge in UK is 6,666 km, which is also the distance from Kailash to the North Pole. Moreover, the distance of way from Kailash to the South Pole is,332 km, which is exactly as much as the distance from the North Pole or Stonehenge.

According to some scientists, the Kailash Mountains have a power that invigorates the body and mind. It is said that those who spend 12 hours around Kailash grow hair and nails as much as two weeks of normal time!

At the foot of Mount Kailash there are two lakes. One is Manas Sarovar Lake and another is Rakshas Tal Lake. Manas Sarovar lake is sacred and is a fresh water lake. Again Rakshas Tal Hrad is a salt water lake known as ghost lake. Manas Sarovar has a circular shape resembling the sun and Rakshas Tal looks like a crescent moon. That is why the two lakes represent light and darkness respectively.

Kailash in the Himalayas and the nearby Manas Sarovar lake give birth to the Indus, Ganges, Sutlej and Brahmaputra rivers in Asia. From there, four rivers flow for thousands of miles and fall into the Indian Ocean.

When viewed from the south, Mount Kailash appears to have the Om symbol on it. Especially the huge ice craters and horizontal rock formations from the mountain peaks form such shapes due to geological reasons. But from a religious point of view, this matter is related to faith.

According to the Mahabharata, the Pandavas climbed Mount Kailash with their only companion, Draupadi, to attain moksha. On their way to heaven, all but Yudhishthira slipped one by one while climbing the peak. It is believed that the gates of heaven were opened only for Yudhisthira. The four slopes of the pyramid-shaped Mount Kailash face the four directions of the compass, making it a symbol of perfection. Devotees truly believe that it's the gateway to heaven.

Mount Kailash is made up of granite. The four faces of this mountain are facing the four directions, i.e. North, South, East and West. According to religious belief, this mountain emits different energies from its four directions. The ancient Hindu scripture Vishnu Purana clearly describes that the west face of Mount Kailash is made of limestone or Padmaragamani, the south face is made of sapphires, the north face is made of gold and the east face is made of precious stones like crystal.
