 Apple's Five Failed Products

Beginning:

Apple, currently one of the best tech giants in the world. According to the latest data from Forbes, Apple has occupied the throne by ace Bagha Bagha Tech company in the world with a market capitalization of 3.02 trillion US dollars. After going through many ups and downs from the beginning, it took 42 years for Apple to reach the 1 trillion mark in August 2018 as the first American company. After only 4 years, Apple was able to achieve a market capitalization of 3 trillion as the first company in the world. The company crossed this incredible milestone in January 2022.

But the history and journey of Apple which has always been glittering, is not the case. Apple, like other companies, has had to accept the bitter taste of failure. Many of their products did not do business as expected in the market. Today's discussion is about ten such failed products of Apple.

The Apple III

The Apple 3 was the first failed product in Apple's history. After awakening the world of technology with Apple Two, Apple launched the 'Apple Three' computer in May 1980 as its successor. The company hoped it would top Apple's success. But instead the computer became Apple's first failed product. As the computer did not have any kind of cooling fan, the device would get hot like fire after a short period of use. Overheating can cause computer circuit board problems as well as chips coming out of sockets. As a result, the entire system of the device would have problems. Because of this, Apple was forced to remove about 14,000 computers from the market. It was Apple's first computer not designed by Steve Wozniak.

The Apple Lisa

The specialty of Apple Lisa is that this computer had a graphical interface. Laptops are now available to everyone, but in the 1980s a personal computer with a graphical interface was a rare thing. Because computers were not yet as accessible as they are today. That's why people did not hesitate to buy Apple Lisa as their first graphical interface personal computer by spending about 10 thousand dollars out of pocket. But the reality is different. Apart from this feature of graphical interface, the high price of the computer was not acceptable in any way. Also the device was very slow. Users had to be quite disappointed as it was also quite difficult to use.

As a result, in 1986, Apple gave an occasion where it was said that Apple Lisa druggies could buy a $4100 Mac Plus for only $1500 in exchange for their computer. Many people take advantage of that opportunity. They were able to sell about 10,000 Lisa computers at $9,995 per computer. It cost them more than 150 million dollars to build these 10,000 computers, while the revenue from them was 100 million dollars.

Apple Macintosh Portable

It was Apple's first battery powered laptop. Although the Macintosh portable computer was portable in name, it was not easy to carry. Because, its weight was around 7 kg. The computer sometimes wouldn't turn on even after plugging in due to battery complications. After being introduced in the market in 1989, the device remained in the market for only two years. This $7,300 computer at the time had 1 megabyte of RAM and 256 kilobytes of ROM. The device was a disaster in the name of being portable.

Copland

Copeland was one of Apple's most ambitious projects. In the 1990s, Apple planned to introduce a new model system called the Copeland, as the Macintosh system could not keep up with the times. The company said that Copland's operating system will run a variety of Windows apps and compete head-to-head with Microsoft's Windows operating system. But after several years of continuous efforts, Apple could not show any expected results, so the project had to be canceled.

The Apple Pippin

Apple loses its bet on the console gaming market with Pippin. The gaming world was already dominated by companies like Sony, Nintendo and Sega. As a result, popular game companies also developed games compatible with these devices. The price of this Apple Pippin, which entered the competition market in 1996, was 600 dollars. On the other hand, spending only $200 out of pocket would get you a high performance Nintendo 64 console. Apple Pippin could not last more than a year in the market due to high price. It also had relatively few games. Although the target of selling 3 lakh units in the first year, Apple managed to sell 12-42 thousand devices by the end of the year.
